From 1904 to the present day

Recognising your Cartier piece

The great Cartier models, from the earliest to the most recent, and what identifies them.

Santos · 1904

Designed for the aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont: square case, visible screws on the bezel. Period and recent models, in steel, gold or both.

Panthère · 1914

The motif was born in 1914 on a watch spotted with onyx and diamonds; it became three-dimensional in 1948, under Jeanne Toussaint. The head, the eyes and the coat date the piece.

Tank · 1917

Modelled on the tanks of the Great War: parallel sidebars, rectangular dial. A shape revisited decade after decade, from gold to steel.

Trinity · 1924

Three interlaced bands, three golds: rose, yellow, white. Early examples, hallmarked and numbered, stand clearly apart — why older pieces are often worth more (in French).

Tutti Frutti · 1920s–1930s

Rubies, sapphires and emeralds carved as leaves, berries and flowers, set in platinum with diamonds: India as seen by Art Deco. Rare pieces: show them to us before making any decision.

Love · 1969

Designed by Aldo Cipullo: a bangle that closes with a screwdriver. Bracelets and rings in yellow, rose or white gold, with or without diamonds.

Juste un Clou · 1971

A gold nail closed around the wrist, another design by Aldo Cipullo, reissued by Cartier in 2012. Bracelets, rings, necklaces.

Clash de Cartier · 2019

Cartier's contemporary line: recent rings, bracelets and earrings, which we buy just as we do older ones.

And all the others

Solitaire, wedding band, necklace, clip: with no model name, a Cartier piece is recognised by its signature, its number, its hallmarks and its workmanship.

Appraisal

What gives a Cartier piece its value

We look at these six points in front of you, then we make a firm offer.

Model and period

A vintage Tank or Panthère, an Art Deco clip, a recent Love or Juste un Clou: each model has its own market, and older pieces are considered separately.

Gold, platinum, size

Yellow, rose or white gold, platinum; small or large model, bracelet or ring size.

Stones

The diamonds on a pavé Love or Juste un Clou, the sapphires and emeralds on older pieces: we look at them one by one.

Signature, number, hallmarks

“Cartier”, the serial number, the fineness of the metal and the hallmarks authenticate the piece; they are read in front of you.

Condition

Scratches, a missing screw, a worn link: none of this prevents a sale. Do not have anything polished or repaired before you come.

Box, screwdriver, certificate

They add value to the piece — a Love's screwdriver, the red box — without being essential.

Frequently asked questions

Selling Cartier jewellery

Do you buy Cartier watches?

Yes. We buy Cartier watches — Tank, Santos, Ballon Bleu and vintage models — in steel as well as in gold.

Is the Cartier certificate or box necessary?

No. The certificate, the box and the original invoice add value to the piece but are not essential: we carry out the examination on site.

How can I find out what my Panthère bracelet is worth?

Bring it to the shop by appointment, or send us photographs: we give you a complimentary first opinion within 24 hours.

Do you buy recent creations, such as Love or Juste un Clou?

Yes, just as we buy older pieces: bracelets, rings and necklaces, in yellow, rose or white gold, with or without diamonds, with or without a box. They are also the most copied models: we check them on site, in front of you.

How do you verify that a Cartier piece is authentic?

By the signature, the number and the hallmarks, then by the workmanship: weight, fit, setting, finish. Everything is verified in-house.

How much is second-hand Cartier jewellery worth?

It depends on the model — Love, Juste un Clou, Panthère, Trinity, Tank — and on the period, the gold, the stones and the condition. We do not give a figure without having seen the piece: a photograph is enough for a first opinion, within 24 hours, then the firm offer is made across the table.

Do you buy Juste un Clou rings and Love rings?

Yes, in yellow, rose or white gold, with or without diamonds, with or without a box.

Is an older Cartier piece worth more than a recent one?

Often, model for model: a vintage Trinity, Tank or clip, hallmarked and numbered, is sought after for its period. Show us the piece: we tell you what it is before you make any decision.

Where can I sell Cartier jewellery in Paris?

At 22 rue Drouot, by appointment: the piece is examined in front of you, the offer is firm and payment follows agreement, the same day. You can begin with a photograph, by WhatsApp.

Is payment immediate?

Yes. Once agreement is reached, payment is made the same day, by bank transfer or by cheque, whatever the amount — with no fees or commission.

Key facts — October 2026

What to know before you come

Verifiable facts, reviewed in October 2026. For a specific case, the appointment settles the matter.

Signature and number

Most pieces bear the Cartier signature and an engraved number. On the oldest ones, the maker's mark is often that of the workshop that made them for Cartier: this is customary, not an anomaly.

Paris, London, New York

For a long time, Cartier worked from three houses: Paris, London from 1902, New York from 1909. A “Cartier London” or “Cartier New York” signature indicates the origin of an older piece.

The certificate

Cartier issues a certificate of authenticity on request: a paid service, taking several weeks. It is not required in order to sell.
