Recognising your Tiffany & Co piece

Founded in New York in 1837, the house has signed models recognisable at first glance. Here they are, from the oldest to the most recent.

Tiffany Setting · 1886

The six-claw solitaire that raises the diamond above the band: the engagement mount of Charles Lewis Tiffany.

Sixteen Stone · 1959

By Jean Schlumberger: diamonds in pairs, separated by small gold crosses; 18-carat yellow gold or platinum.

Paillonné enamels · 1962

Jean Schlumberger's bangles: translucent enamel laid over gold leaf, rhythmed by gold motifs — Croisillon, Dot Losange…

Bird on a Rock · 1965

A bird set with diamonds perched on a large coloured stone, designed by Jean Schlumberger.

Bone · 1970

Elsa Peretti's cuff, sculpted after the bone of the wrist; silver or 18-carat gold, sometimes set. Sold by Tiffany since 1974.

Elsa Peretti · 1974

Open Heart, Bean, Diamonds by the Yard: the creations of her early years at Tiffany, in silver, gold or platinum.

Paloma Picasso · 1980

Her first jewels for Tiffany: Xs, scribbles, zigzags sculpted in gold. The Olive Leaf line dates from 2013.

Tiffany T · 2014

The letter T as a clean, angular motif, after a bracelet in the 1975–1976 Blue Book; 18-carat gold, sometimes set with diamonds.

And all the others

Victoria (1998), HardWear (2017), Knot (2021), Lock (2022)… With no model name, a Tiffany piece is recognised by its signature, its hallmarks and its workmanship.

Appraisal

What gives a Tiffany piece its value

We look at these six points in front of you, then we make a firm offer.

Model and material

Tiffany Setting solitaire, Schlumberger pieces in gold and enamel, Elsa Peretti in gold: the house is interested above all in gold, platinum and diamonds.

The centre diamond

For a solitaire: weight, colour, clarity and quality of the cut make most of the value. We weigh it and read it in front of you.

Enamels and stones

Schlumberger's paillonné enamels, coloured stones: their condition weighs in the offer.

Signature and hallmarks

“Tiffany & Co.”, the metal fineness and, for some pieces, the designer's name.

Condition

A worn claw, cracked enamel, scratches: we value the piece as it is. Do not have anything polished or repaired before you come.

Blue box and certificate

They add value to the piece, without being essential.

Frequently asked questions

Selling Tiffany & Co jewellery

Do you buy Tiffany solitaires?

Yes. The centre diamond, its cut and its certificate determine most of the value; we examine on the spot.

Is the Tiffany certificate or box necessary?

No. The certificate, the box and the original invoice add value to the piece but are not essential: we carry out the examination on site, in front of you.

How can I find out what my jewel is worth?

Bring it by appointment, in Paris or London, or send us photographs: we give you a first opinion within 24 hours, complimentary.

Do you buy the creations of Jean Schlumberger and Elsa Peretti?

Yes, first of all those of Jean Schlumberger: enamelled bangles, brooches, Sixteen Stone rings, Bird on a Rock; and Elsa Peretti's Bone cuffs and pieces in gold, with or without a box.

How do you verify that a Tiffany piece is authentic?

By the signature, the number and the hallmarks, then by the workmanship: weight, fit, setting, finish. Everything is verified in-house, in front of you.

How much is a second-hand Tiffany solitaire worth?

Most of it rests on the diamond — weight, colour, clarity, cut —, then on the platinum and the condition. We do not give a figure without having seen the ring: we examine it in front of you, then we make a firm offer.

Do you buy Tiffany jewellery in silver?

Its value remains modest: we tell you so frankly on a photograph, before any journey. The pieces in gold, in platinum or set with stones are those we look for.

Do you buy Tiffany T jewellery in gold?

Yes, in yellow, rose or white gold, with or without diamonds, with or without a box.

Can I sell a Tiffany piece in London?

Yes. The house receives in London by appointment at its office, 100 Hatton Garden, EC1N 8NX, in the jewellery quarter. Write first by WhatsApp or e-mail with photographs; the appointment is fixed around the house's visits.

Is payment immediate?

Yes. Once agreement is reached, payment is made the same day, by bank transfer, whatever the amount — with no fees or commission.

Key facts — October 2026

What to know before you come

Verifiable facts, reviewed in October 2026. For a specific case, the appointment settles the matter.

Signatures and marks

Pieces generally carry “Tiffany & Co.” or “T & Co.” and the metal fineness: 750 for 18-carat gold, 925 for silver, 950 for platinum.

Designers who sign

Jean Schlumberger joined Tiffany in 1956, Elsa Peretti in 1974, Paloma Picasso in 1980: their pieces carry their name beside that of the house.

The diamond certificate

A solitaire may come with the Tiffany Diamond Certificate, which attests the authenticity and the characteristics of the stone. It adds value to the piece; it is not required in order to sell.
